MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelorís Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a Related Field or Journeyman Certification from a Bonafide Apprenticeship Program.
Certified Safety Professional preferred; Certified Utility Safety Professional preferred, must be obtained within 12 months of hire; OSHA 1910 30-Hour Certification preferred, must be obtained within six months of hire; OSHA 1926 30-Hour Certification preferred, must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
3-5 years experience in occupational safety and training.
Knowledge of federal, state, local, and tribal regulatory requirements.
Valid Driverís License (subject to motor vehicle record review)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day and seven days a week, or when needed. Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, maintains order, protects property and promotes safe actions on scene.
Report and respond to accidents, incidents, and administer first aid treatment as needed. Facilitates incident investigations and recommends corrective actions.
Investigates accidents, unsafe conditions and acts, and prepares written recommendation of corrective and preventive measures.
Conducts announced and unannounced audits for safety inspection of work areas and job sites.
Analyzes audit findings to make recommendations on equipment, operations and related training.
Acts as Subject Matter Expert for Safety training content development. Instructs safety and technical training.
Acts as Subject Matter Expert for utility safety education for community and public outreach.
Participates in company-wide safety meetings, safety committee meetings or proactive safety activities.
Conducts safety training sessions.
Prepares correspondence, reports, agendas, memos, forms, directories, other documents and communications from drafts, recordings, or verbal instruction.
Prepare or review specifications or orders for the purchase of safety equipment, ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards.
Prepares and distributes safety and health educational materials and information.
Develops written guidance for emergency response plans, hazardous materials, industrial hygiene and general safety requirements.
Makes recommendations to improve safety performance; including situational awareness, hazard recognition, and accountability measures.
Promotes a positive Safety Culture through education, outreach, and collaboration with employees and the management team.
Maintain all required environmental records and documentation.
Supply, operate, or maintain personal protective equipment.
Conducts employee testing as needed or required; including drug and alcohol, pulmonary functions, self-contained breathing apparatus.
Assists with development of departmental budget, procedures and practices.
Prepares, demonstrates use of, and calibrates equipment used to collect, analyze data or in emergencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
